Guests often praise

  • The stunning and unique natural cave formations that offer a memorable experience.
  • The friendliness and helpfulness of the local guides throughout the tour.
  • The opportunity to enjoy authentic regional food and refreshing drinks on-site.
  • The peaceful, nature-rich surroundings away from urban distractions.
  • Affordable lodging options and basic facilities that complement the adventure.

Worth knowing

  • Access to the caves requires crawling in narrow, low-ceiling sections and walking through flowing water; sturdy footwear and waterproof gear are essential.
  • Physical fitness and mental composure are important; the trip is not recommended for beginners, claustrophobic individuals, or those over 90 kg (198 lbs).
  • Bring protective equipment such as lamps, a change of clothes, and waterproof phone cases to make the visit more comfortable.
  • Facilities are basic with small shops and restrooms available, but infrastructure is minimal.
  • Cell phone signal and internet are not available on-site, enhancing the natural and disconnected experience.

Best for

  • Adventure seekers looking for an off-the-beaten-path natural exploration.
  • Nature lovers who appreciate quiet, scenic environments without digital distractions.
  • Those physically prepared for moderate to challenging terrain and confined spaces.
  • Visitors interested in cultural immersion with local guides and regional cuisine.
  • Small groups or individuals comfortable with basic accommodations and rustic settings.

It was impressive. At the beginning, It was scary and didn't know what to expect. We hiked uphill between vegetation. The guide didn't look professional but a humble worker who carried the keys to the entrance and whose huaraches looked as old as the cave itself. Once inside people from the group had to come back cause it was narrow so large people didn't fit. The ones who stayed had to do some physical effort to get to the end. In conclusion, it was a great experience... we exercised, we laughed, we witnessed nature's wonders. We met hard working people who tried their best with the little resources they had. We ENJOYED it very much. Thanks for keeping the Grutas open for us to explore and wonder
